Technology related transactions are led by Darren Thompson.

Meridian has a significant track record in working with technology related businesses. Darren has been involved in advising, investing and representing at Board level, technology companies for over 15 years. He also oversees the investment strategy of our technology fund, Meridian Growth Capital.

Very often the overall value of technology is as much a reflection of the distribution channels to market, rather than the technology. We completely understand that valuation methodologies are also different to conventional business models and a good appreciation of the wider market is important in examining strategic investment opportunities and exits.

Meridian has been involved in game-changing technology, most notably the sale to Atmel Inc of Quantum Research Group, who developed the capacitive touch sense technology that now drives a wide range of hand held devices and smart phones.

Understanding technology from an investor and an acquiror perspective, as opposed to a pure accountancy led approach is crucial. Meridian works with the venture capital community in both the UK and overseas and Darren previously served on the Hi Tech Advisory Committee of the British Venture Capital Association.

From an operational perspective, Darren currently sits on the board of 2 technology businesses and was formerly responsible for technology investments at Barclays Ventures and was a founder and principal of the NatWest IT fund.
